Wow, it’s already
November, the 11th month of the year. The 11th? November retained
its name (from the Latin novem meaning "nine") when January and
February were added to the Roman calendar. This year’s annual Macy’s
Thanksgiving Day Parade will feature a scary new balloon, B. Boy,
designed by Tim Burton, the famed film director. It is also the last
time the balloons will fly through Times Square in front of our
Briggs windows. In 2012, they will take a more direct route to
Herald Square via the sterile 1960s office-towered Sixth Avenue, aka
“The Avenue of the Americas.” It’s our last chance to be on TV and
wave out our windows to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving as the parade
passes by. |

“Her name was Lola; she was a showgirl,
with yellow feathers in her hair and a dress cut down to there.” You
won’t find Lola or me sailing across the bar at the Copa, but you can
join the effervescent crowd at the newly opened night club. The famous
Copa, (short for Copacabana) opened in 1940 and has undergone
several metamorphoses and changes of location over the decades. This
latest rebirth in the Theater District features an all-glass rooftop
private event space with floor-to-ceiling windows, a retractable
glass roof, an interior bar, and a full kitchen. “Music and passion
were always the fashion.”

Catch, a multi-level seafood haven, is
a globally-influenced restaurant embracing a new model of city-style
dining that is more fluid than formatted. Unlike the clear
three-course model that defines traditional fine dining, Catch
fosters a more relaxed and social approach, where food prepared by
Top Chef winner Hung Huynh hits the table in a steady stream of
shareable cuisine. This modern yet welcoming space features two
floors of dining, a raw bar, a cocktail bar, and an enclosed rooftop
lounge.
