| A Place at the Table | Happy Thanksgiving | |||||
Thanksgiving always brings back warm
memories of friends and family. It’s the only major holiday where we
all can gather and celebrate without any religious or political
connotations. As a young boy in Brooklyn, when it was time to say
Grace, I would put my Arthur Fiedler & the Boston Pops LP on the
stereo and play the traditional Dutch hymn “We Gather Together“ as
background music. – Always the event planner! It’s been a hard year
but we have all pulled through (sometimes barely!) and that is a lot
to be thankful for. So from our Briggs Family to yours – Happy
Thanksgiving.

| The Hudson Hotel | WTC Tribute Center | |||||
The Hudson Hotel is not new but the youthful crowed keeps it evergreen. The Hudson Hotel, like New York itself, is a melting pot of styles and ideas. Shimmering with a hot-rod vivacity and in-your-face style it appeals to the media, arts and high tech industries. The rooms, though small, are smartly appointed by the world-renowned designer Phillipe Starck. The public spaces include an outdoor roof garden, library style restaurant and a trendy disco. It’s in a great part of town - right off of Columbus Circle straddling Midtown to the south and the West Side/Central Park to the north. |
Tribute WTC Visitor Center offers visitors to the World Trade Center site a place where they can connect with people from the September 11th community. Guests will experience five galleries filled with poignant images, artifacts, audio and video. The Center offers "Person to Person History," linking visitors who want to understand and appreciate these historic events with those who experienced them. Guests can be greeted and shown through the museum by a member of the 9/11 community who will provide historical background information on the World Trade Center while integrating their personal story of the attacks. | |||||
| SD 26 | Theater | |||||
SD26 is the new name of the famous San Domenico Restaurant that has re-invented itself after moving downtown to Madison Square from its Central Park South location. San Domenico was always one of the best Italian restaurants in the city; always on the cutting edge of Italian cooking while retaining Italy’s beloved cucina style and hospitality. It is a perfect example of an older institution making its self over to fit the 21st century yet keeping its heart and soul. And yes, their most famous dish is still on the menu, a large round ravioli that when you pierce it, reveals an egg yolk inside that spills out over the plate and is cooked by the heat of the pasta and the melting parmesan. Exquisito! There is a grand balcony space for private events and an intimate wine cellar. Openings:

At the dawn of a new century, everything is changing… and anything is possible. Direct from a sold-out extended run at the Kennedy Center, Ragtime returns to Broadway in an acclaimed new production as ravishing as it is relevant. Set in the volatile melting pot of turn-of-the-century New York, Ragtime weaves together three distinctly American tales -- that of a stifled upper-class wife, a determined Jewish immigrant and a daring young Harlem musician -- united by their courage, compassion and belief in the promise of the future. Their compelling stories are set to a glorious, Tony Award winning score by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens. Based on the classic E. L. Doctorow novel, Ragtime also features an extraordinary, Tony Award-winning book by Terrence McNally, direction and choreography by Marcia Milgrom Dodge, a majestic 28-piece orchestra and a vibrant cast of 40.
