October 2004

"It isn't easy being green!"      Trick or Treat?
You wouldn't think of New York City as the Halloween capital of the world BUT the city in October is filled with treats and there is no trick to enjoying them: October Fests, farmers markets with their late summer bounty, harvest wine tastings and the very scary Yankees playoffs. The Village Halloween Parade, the largest in the world, winds a macabre dance through Greenwich Village. Every storefront displays the latest costumes - from Spiderman, Superman (alas) to Kill Bill and even Bush/Kerry masks (now that's scary!). And yes, kids in NYC do go door-to-door trick or treating on Halloween night. NYC kids have it all over the suburban kids. They can hit 200 apartments in a single building complex bringing home overflowing bags of treats!

Night of the Living Dead      Trick or Treat BOOtique
Even Dracula can get a good day's sleep at the new Dream Hotel. Wake up to an entirely new hotel experience. Dream combines the vision of hotelier Vikram Chatwal, a mind-enhancing lobby and three separate bars inspired by fashion surrealist David LaChapelle and an Ayurvedic healing center created by spiritualist Deepak Chopra. Enter through the hotel's revolving front door and be taken on a trip to the design world's past and future. Walk on sleek, modern black floors and gaze up from your coffin into the vaulted, mirrored ceiling reflecting blown glass flames sitting atop decorative columns.

We don't do anything on a small scale in New York City; even shopping for our Halloween candy. Dylan's Candy Bar is the brainchild of Dylan Lauren, daughter of Ralph Lauren. The 10,000 square foot New York City flagship store totally re-defines the idea of a traditional "sweets" store by creating a unique and completely unmatched shopping experience in a visually awe inspiring environment. You can find over 4,000 different candies including 21 different colors of M&M's, 16 different flavors of Skittles, and 12 different colors of Hershey Kisses. It even makes a sweet spot for private parties.
Sleepy Hollow      "...and your little dog, too!"
Only 30 minutes north of NYC lies the town of Sleepy Hollow made famous by Washington Irving's short story, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. It's a great time to explore the Hudson Valley and view the fall foliage. The valley is filled with historic castles, mysterious mountains and quaint inns for lunch. And on Halloween night it has been rumored that the headless horseman still gallops over the famous covered bridge and and tosses his fiery jack-o-lantern head at Ichabod Crane.
Broadway offers some ghoulish delights for the season. Dracula the Musical takes a bite out of the Big Apple with its flying vampires and a gothic score. The Phantom of the Opera still haunts the Majestic Theatre and the upcoming movie version in December will only enhance its stranglehold on ticket buyers. The Wicked Witch of the West "defies gravity" in Wicked, which is such a hit it's sold out 'til April. What's the trick to getting into the latest Broadway shows? Just give us a call for that treat!
