Central Park
|
Recognize where Ruby and I are? Maine? Vermont? HA! We're in the Central Park Ravine where waterfalls, streams and wildlife abound. Who would have thought that NYC would have so much green space. I have the biggest backyard in the world and I don't have to do the gardening! Central Park is the lung of the city, giving oxygen, serenity and vigor to residents and visitors alike! We would love to explore it with you and show you its hidden secrets; caves, lakes, falcons, trails, its restaurants, horse and carriage rides, roller blading, bike riding, concerts and even a Secret Garden! As the song from "Little Shop of Horrors" sings, let us take you to "Some Place That's Green!" And I haven't even mentioned the NY and Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, Bryant, Battery and Gramercy Parks! --Tony Napoli

Come celebrate Central Park's 150th Anniversary with us this year! Comprised of more than 26,000 trees, 58 miles of scenic pathways, and nearly 9,000 benches on 843 acres, there are myriad of highlights to see and activities to do in this wooded urban oasis; an outdoor theatre offering Shakespearian plays, 51 monuments, sculptures and fountains, the famous restaurant Tavern on the Green, outdoor concerts in the bandshells, rowboats and gondolas on The Lake, horse-drawn carriages and even a carousel. Round up a team and play baseball on one of the ball fields, watch the penguins get fed at the zoo, toss a Frisbee or sunbathe in Sheep Meadow or grab a hot dog and ice cream from one of the 50 vendors. Let us show you why Central Park truly is the heart and soul of New York City. --Stephanie Margulies

Wake up and smell the roses! Or orchids or lilies at one of the most beautiful event spaces in the city. The New York Botanical Gardens (in da Bronx) is one of the oldest and greatest botanical gardens in the United States boasting the nation's largest Victorian glass house. The Crystal Pavilion is just one of the many breathtaking spaces to hold private functions at the gardens. Guests can enjoy cocktails surrounded by more than 80 rose beds in the Peggy Rockefeller Rose Garden or dinner in the Palms of Americas Gallery with its magnificent 90-foot dome and dramatic reflecting pool bordered by lush tropical plants. Or enjoy lunch at the Snuff Mill beside a rushing waterfall. Spring is the ideal time of the year to immerse yourself in the beauty of nature and the New York Botanical Gardens is the quintessential setting to do it in. --Brooke Barnes

What better place to celebrate Central Park than dining at the Central Park Boathouse. This charming, tented, pavilion-like structure on The Lake offers spectacular views of the park's natural landscaping. The restaurant features a canvas roof, wooden patios, a glassed-in gazebo and wrought iron chairs and tables draped in soft, cream-colored cloths. The terrace offers lake views from every seat and is perfect for lunch or dinner. The country-like setting is serene and casual and offers a wonderful place to sit, relax, and watch the rowboats go by. So, grab a table and let the celebrations begin. --Dorian Lynn Cattani

First seen Off-Broadway back in 1982, Little Shop of Horrors finally plants its roots on Broadway for a summertime bloom. This story of a meek florist who makes a Faustian pact with an "exotic" plant (newly designed by Jim Henson's New York Workshop) in order to win the heart of the girl he loves is sure to have crowds sprouting like weeds at the box office. But beware! Don't get too close to the talking plant, Audrey II, for behind the glamour and fame this conniving succulent feasts on human blood!
