Tony's Article    TONY ON THE SQUARE

Spring has sprung and everyone is out of doors. Times Square has now become the living room of New York City, where tourists and New Yorkers alike sit and promenade. Trees are in bloom in Central Park, sailing boats are in the harbor, farmers markets plant themselves on almost every corner, and the ubiquitous street festivals bring throngs outdoors to enjoy the warm May sun and invigorating breezes. New Yorkers are intrepid and at Briggs we have an emergency plan just in case anything untoward may occur while our guests are in town; better safe than sorry. Come join the flaneurs window shopping on Fifth and Madison Avenues, buy a T-shirt from a local vendor and try a Belgian Waffle at one of the many street fairs.

  The Andaz Hotel    The Atlantica

The harbor in downtown Manhattan is fast becoming an attractive place to work and live. The Andaz is the new chic hotel at the foot of Wall Street, nearby South Street Seaport and just a short walk to the East River. When you arrive a Host checks you in on a PC tablet. With no uniforms or counters, checking in is less like a procedure and more like a conversation. The stunning guestrooms offer room to breathe with high ceilings. Interiors feature clean lines, ample light, innovative design and natural materials. Personalized amenities, like the Sleep Menu and mini-bar with complimentary non-alcoholic beverages and snacks, exemplify the hospitality of the new downtown that makes a stay at Andaz unique.

Seeing New York City from the water is a must. Only from the river can you truly realize that Manhattan is an island! Atlantica is the new boat in town sailing past the Stature of Liberty every evening. This exclusive private charter yacht is corporately stylish, offers customized fine cuisine and flexible entertainment. The views of NYC’s skyline are most impressive from the open air observation decks. Dinner and dancing while sailing under the Brooklyn Bridge - "Oh what a night!"

The Central Park Boathouse   Ovo & Banana Shpeel

While we wait for Tavern on the Green to reopen, there’s another hidden jewel in Central Park. The Boathouse, situated next to Central Park's prettiest lake, combines the country charm of plants, water and wildlife with views of skyscrapers peeking over the trees. It’s a perfect place to lunch or watch the passing scene of row boats and roller bladders and its private space is the perfect Forest of Arden escape for a corporate gala dinner. As the night gets darker and the lights flicker on, the view of Central Park becomes even more charming.

Le Cirque is in town! Take a short boat ride over to Randall’s Island Park to see Cirque du Soliel’s new edition - Ovo. Pitched under an intimate, luxury tent across the East River from Manhattan.  Ovo is a headlong rush into a colorful ecosystem teeming with life. It’s love at first sight when a gawky, quirky insect arrives in this bustling community and a fabulous ladybug catches his eye – and the feeling is mutual. Ovo is overflowing with contrasts. The hidden, secret world at our feet is revealed as tender and torrid, noisy and quiet, peaceful and chaotic. And as the sun rises on a bright new day, the vibrant cycle of insect life begins anew. A fabulous circus under the stars!
