Halloween   The Witching Hour in NYC

When the frost is on the punkin and the fodder's in the shock... you know it's bewitching time in NYC. October is wonderful month to be bobbing in the Big Apple. The many farmers markets are bursting with autumnal produce. The German neighborhoods are redolent of bratwurst, and sauerkraut  with beer. The Italians march up Fifth Avenue and the Jews are dining in the Sukkot tents under the Harvest Moon. The response to my Blog has been overwhelming. And since the Blog is now stand alone from the newsletter, here's a final reminder if you want to be sent an email when I add an entry, just log on to www.tonynapoli.com, hit the update link and enter your info. BOO!

The Victorians used to picnic in the verdant expanse of Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn. Halloween is a fun time to take a tour of this historic site. Stroll up to the highest point in Brooklyn for spectacular views of the Manhattan skyline and New York harbor. Visit the Brooklyn Theatre Monument, toy-seller F.A.O. Schwarz, the Soldiers' Monument, musical great Leonard Bernstein, Brooklyn Dodgers' Charles Ebbetts, sewing machine inventor Elias Howe and his dog, Fannie, mobster Johnny Torrio, "Father of Baseball" Henry Chadwick. Maybe you will espy Lola Montez  doing her spider dance. Long ago Houdini once said that if anyone can cheat death and return he would be the one to do it. Every year on Halloween hundreds visit his grave at another NYC cemetery in Queens, hoping he would make another appearance. (He died on Halloween day). No contact yet....

In the heart of Chelsea, is a one stop culinary food shop, Chelsea Market.  A gourmet lover's wholesale-retail wonder world, and an energetic, industrial-chic hotspot, all meshed into a million square feet of space, along an historical 800-foot concourse on a unique city block in Manhattan. Don't miss out on the Fat Witch, home to some of the most decadent brownies in New York!

In the old days the only chef known in the USA was Chef Boy-R-Dee! Well, one of today's top cult chefs is Tom Colicchio. He  brings his magical prowess in the kitchen to 'wichcraft, a upscale chain of sandwich shops.  Best know for his reality TV series Top Chef, Tom Colicchio is also the chef and owner of Craft and Craftsteak restaurants.

"It's A-live!" Mel Brooks brings back to life a musical version of his very funny film, Young Frankenstein. It has elaborate sets and costumes and features Megan Mullally of Will and Grace fame. It is the wickedly inspired re-imagining of the Mary Shelley classic from the comic genius of Mel Brooks.  When Frederick Frankenstein, an esteemed New York brain surgeon and professor, inherits a castle and laboratory in Transylvania from his grandfather, deranged genius Victor Von Frankenstein, he faces a dilemma.  Does he continue to run from his family’s tortured past or does he stay in Transylvania to carry on his grandfather’s mad experiments reanimating the dead  and, in the process,  fall in love with his sexy lab assistant Inga?  This has HIT written all over it! So be warned....
