New
York City is now the top destination in the United States with over
48.7 million visitors last year. At our annual June Briggs Awards,
held on January 6 in the Grand Ballroom at The Plaza Hotel, we
thanked all of our partners who were directly responsible for this
astonishing statistic. We have always known that tourism is a major
dynamo, driving the economic success of our city and the incentive
segment is finally getting the attention it deserves. This year’s
winners especially contributed to that success and continue Briggs’
vision of celebrating the best in the DMC incentive travel industry.
Please join us in an e-round of applause. |

Sometimes, when a hospitality partner does their job so well, we
almost take them for granted. UniWorld, one of our preferred
transportation companies, flawlessly transfers our guests from
airport to hotel, to shopping, to the theatre, dinner, hotel and
back to the airport where it all began. Their staff and drivers
do it with style, grace and élan that leaves a lasting
impression on our clients and their guests.

The “House that Ruth built” may have been rebuilt
across those mean streets up in the Bronx, but it is still the most
iconic sports stadium in the country. The New York Yankees now play
in a state of the art venue drawing thousands of fans from all over
the world. But Yankee Stadium is also a great place to hold a
business or incentive meeting which we had the great privilege to do
this past summer, taking over the entire stadium for a high profile
insurance company. |

“Forget all your troubles, forget all your cares and go Downtown,
Downtown – where everything's waiting for you…”
It’s only been around for a year, but Trump SoHo has been a magnet
for incentive groups who wouldn't normally venture outside of
midtown. It gives new meaning to the saying “If you build it, they
will come,” especially when it carries the Trump name – it’s trendy,
it's chic and it's very upscale.

In this day of shrinking
magazine and newspaper subscriptions, usually the first thing to be
cut is the coverage of the arts. Broadway and Off Broadway shows are
integral elements in our tourist industry with well over 12 million
people attending each year. NY1, our hometown TV station, has put
the performing arts center stage! With its astute, engaging hosts,
and its insightful half-hour weekly television segment On Stage,
the arts are finally back where they belong. |
