  "Water, Water Everywhere..."    Brooklyn Piers

“New York City Waterfalls,” Olafur Eliasson’s $15.5 million quartet of temporary cascades dotting the New York Harbor, is a big washout. This art project was supposed to rival the Gates in Central Park but the effect on tourism has been the proverbial drop in the bucket, drawing little or no interest from New Yorkers and tourists alike. The fact that you really need to see them by boat, I think, is part of their unpopularity. The Gates were accessible to all, just a stroll through Central Park. If these “waterfalls” were on land say in the middle of Rockefeller Center that may have been a marvel to behold. The sprinkler in my back yard was more dramatic and more fun. Meanwhile NYC has plenty of waterfalls. Dip your toe in below and enjoy these cool refreshing oases in the city.
