Go Ask Alice    Alice in Central Park

Alice in Wonderland is popping up all over NYC. That’s not so curioser and curioser since NYC is a veritable wonderland - there’s even a statue of her in Central Park. Don’t we New Yorkers go down into a hole to catch our subways underground? (check out the Alice Mosaics in the 50th Street #1 stop). Aren’t all our buildings designed as stage sets and don’t we all run around foolishly yelling “We’re late, we’re late for a very important date”? Even the recent movie Brooklyn’s Finest uses Jefferson Airplane’s song, “White Rabbit” to depict the Big Apple as a hallucinatory land as fantastic as any of Tim Burton’s wildest 3D dreams. See you in Wonderland….

 Hotels    Venues

The new Wonderland Hotel opens up in Carroll Gardens. The décor is based on the famous Tenniel illustrations. You enter via a chute that delivers you to the front desk where the staff is attired as characters from the classic tale: Humpty Dumpty, Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum and the Red Queen. The White Rabbit offers a welcoming Magnolia cupcake that says “Eat Me” whose secret ingredient gives you the illusion of being small enough to enter the very tiny door into your room. The rooms feature a Swarovski “Looking Glass” mirror with special dials that will add or subtract weight or age. On the bed is a stuffed grinning Cheshire Cat provided by FAO Schwarz. Other amenities include Hammacher Schlemmer Queen of Hearts playing cards, Elaine Strich Mad Hat collection, Brookstone Flamingo croquet set, and Nat Sherman Caterpillar hookah. Room service specialties include Mock Turtle Soup and Lobster Quadrille.

Not to be outdone by London, The Wonder Wheel in Coney Island is being moved to Times Square on the new pedestrian mall. Toys R Us is quite angry because they have a ferris wheel within their store, which was to be the centerpiece of their new partnership with Ru Paul, “So You Think You Can Prance”. It's a new department selling famous drag queen dolls such as Bertha Nation, Polly Esther and Miss Understood. Red Bull Arena is the new soccer-specific stadium located in Harrison, New Jersey. It is the home of the New York Red Bulls of Major League Soccer. Red Bull Arena has a capacity of about 25,000 and features a full, translucent, European-style roof that covers all of the seats in the stadium but not the field. The stadium sits alongside the Passaic River with a breathtaking view of the Newark skyline to the West and Bada Bing to the East.

The Lincoln Center restaurant opening in the fall across from the Metropolitan Opera by chef David Letts finally has a name – "Lett’s MEAT at the MET". Signature operatic dishes will include: La BoHam; The Magic Fluke; Madame Butterflied Lamb and for dessert – Figaletto. Before fried chicken became the cliché on every hot spot's menu, South Williamsburg’s cult favorite Pies-n-Thighs helped put it on the map as a hipster staple, and now, after a few years' hiatus, it's back in the same nabe; the titular thighs and other chicken parts come in a $10 box with a choice of side and a biscuit. In Greenwich Village, Arlo Guthrie is introducing a new dining concept - Alice’s Restaurant. – “Where you can get anything you want” – there is no menu.

Love Never Dies aka Phantom of the Opera Part Two received mixed reviews in London with one wag critic saying it was so boring it should be called Paint Never Dries. It is a big hit, of course!
