April 2005

Springtime in New York!      Happy Easter!
Easter came so early this year. Still, we all enjoy a big basket no matter when it arrives. If you're into outdoor activities, be sure to catch Mayor Bloomberg in the Passover matzoh ball-rolling contest at the end of April. If you missed Christo's Gates, don't miss his wrapping of Miss Liberty in June. And not to worry, she'll be draped in flameproof taffeta, so the 4th of July Fireworks can still go on. Did you hear that the "DaVinci Code" sequel takes place in New York? Mary Magdalene flees to Gotham and opens a kosher bagel shop (Divine Dough) which is passed down to her direct descendant, Marilyn Monroe!! Mysteriously, MM is killed off by an ancient order, "The Kennedy's". And according to the new book, remnants of the anti-MM conspiracy still remain in NYC: no "M" train, no blue M&Ms, and no 13th floors (M being the 13th letter of the alphabet). And the Brooklyn Bridge is for sale. Any takers?

Good news! It looks like The Plaza will not be closing after all. A last minute buyout was brokered by Eloise who just couldn't bear to leave her childhood home. For one of her fundraising events, Eloise persuaded Barbra Streisand and Robert Redford to re-enact their famous Plaza love scenes from "The Way We Were" while high-end donors stood by sipping champagne. Eloise plans to restore the hotel and add several celebrity suites including the "Home Alone" suite featuring fun memorabilia from Macaulay Culkin and Michael Jackson.

Beef seems to be the rage in New York this spring. Gypsy Rose Lee is opening a new steak house called "Strip". One of the specialties will be Loins of London. Rocco DiSpirito is abandoning his famous TV restaurant (which featured his mother's meatballs) and opening a new restaurant called "My Son Has Balls II". "Where's the Beef?", a new "concept" restaurant, hides the meal and makes patrons crawl around on all fours looking for it. Those that moo the loudest get a free cosmopolitan. Moo moo!!

Briggs has arranged for Martha Stewart to give house tours of her estate for the next four months only. Unfortunately, the tour is limited to the interior of her home, but guests will receive a souvenir ankle bracelet as a remembrance of their visit. Another fun outing is our new tasting tour, "Celebrity Foods of New York" with Kirstie Alley. Guests will nosh around the nabes of NYC sampling knishes, corn dogs, freedom fries, fried Twinkies, chocolate, black forest and five-layer cakes, burritos, deep fried chicken, barbeque baked beans, bacon triple cheeseburgers, double fudge/double dip ice cream cones (sprinkles can be added for an additional .50/guest), stuffed lobster, eggs benedict and much, much more. And don't forget to ask about our hugely successful "Quest for the Holy Grail" team building event.
