   Spring Awakening

Budding crocuses or Groundhog Day may be the official harbingers of spring in the rest of the country but in New York City we have our own milestones. Palm Sunday is the official opening of the landmarked Cyclone roller coaster in Coney Island. There is an opening ceremony with an egg cream christening of the cars and the first 100 riders ride free!  When you see elephants and the clown Bello (with the tall hair) walking through the Lincoln Tunnel you know spring and Barnum & Baileys' Circus has come to town. However if you see Pink Elephants you are in trouble! And finally when the first pitch is thrown at Yankee Stadium and the Star Spangled Banner is warbled not by a robin-red-breast but by some minor celebrity, you really know spring has sprung. Happy Easter!  See Tony's Blog.

In Times Square, you will be able to go right from the #1 train to the new Metro Grand. The restaurant at Hannibal's Hotel features an extensive Chianti wine list and their signature dish, beef cheeks with fava beans.  Mel Gibson is behind the new Maya Hotel where nothing has been sacrificed to luxury.
